The How & Why of Bone Broth

Updated: Jul 9, 2023

The how & why of bone brothšŸ– Bone broth is perfect for this time of year. It's warming, cozy, delicious, and so good for you!ā

The strategy I've learned is "throw it all in!" Here are some starter ideas:ā

.

First you'll need:

ā  - a big potā

- 1-2 pounds beef and/or chicken bones (pre-cooked for more nutrients)ā

- a splash of apple cider vinegar (this helps break down the bones)

- carrots - 1-3 is good

- celery - 1-2 stalksā

- a whole yellow onionā , chopped

- rosemary - 1-2 sprigsā

- mushrooms - 2-3ā

- 1 tbsp saltā  - parsley to tasteā

- water, enough to fill the potā

.ā

Cover this concoction and bring it to a boil. Then reduce to a simmer and cook for 12-24 hours. What?! Yes. That helps to get all the nutrients from the inside of the bones out. ā

.

After 12-24 hours, remove the bones & veggies, strain the broth, and enjoy! Drink by itself or save for a soup.ā

.

ā Why is bone broth so good for us? ā

.

Bone broth is FULL of nutrients: collagen, glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, & gelatin - all which help support connective tissues in the body. ā

.

This means healthy bones, bone rebuilding, supple joints, healthy hair, strong nails, elastic, moisturized skin, nourished gut & a happy gut-brain connection! What more could you want!?ā
