With the holidays in full swing, eating healthy may not be at the forefront of our minds. It is perfectly understandable; it's a time to revel with family and friends while indulging in scrumptious cuisine! To make healthier choices without sacrificing flavor, here are some holiday swaps that I can't get enough of!

Swap Out: Mashed Potatoes Swap In: Roasted Sweet Potatoes

This alternative offers more potassium, vitamin A, and fiber than the familiar white potatoes. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, cut sweet potatoes in 1 inch pieces, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with cinnamon and salt, and roast for 25-30 minutes (unless fork tender)

Swap Out: Holiday Ham Swap In: Thighs (Chicken & Turkey)

If you're looking for a healthier alternative to ham, consider switching to chicken thighs or dark meat turkey. These cuts of poultry offer the same delicious taste without all the sodium and nitrates that can lead to high blood pressure and cancer-causing agents in your diet. Darker meats like these are also loaded with healthy fats so that you don't have to sacrifice flavor for nutrition when choosing what's on your plate!

Swap Out: Sugar Cookie Swap In: No Bake Cookie

During the holiday season, I have a tendency to surrender to my sweet tooth cravings. However, this year instead of succumbing and reaching for those cute sugar cookies, why not try something different? Why not indulge in an irresistibly delicious treat that is chock full of healthy ingredients such as grass-fed butter, rolled oats and peanut butter! A chocolate-peanut butter no-bake cookie won't only satisfy your sweet tooth desires but will also provide you with essential nutrients at the same time!

Swap Out: Egg Nog Swap In: Spiced Chai

Ditch the trusty eggnog for a healthier and more flavorful alternative this holiday season - spiced chai. Despite its nutritional value, eggnog is overly calorie-dense which can make it difficult to stay on track with your nutrition during the holidays. Spiced chai is an ideal replacement as its low in calories while also having anti-inflammatory properties from the various spices used in preparation. Serve yours warm with some milk added for that comforting flavor we all crave!
